Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology PSP is a role-playing game on the Playstation Portable. Form your ideal forces from numerous available characters derived from Tales of Phantasia, Symphonia, Destiny 1 and 2, Rebirth, Abyss, Eternia, and Legendia games. Integration is necessary to triumph over various tasks in the game and launch attacks on various fortified towers.

The world of Terresia is under attack by the “Predators,” seeking to consume mana and leave it desolate. Although the planet’s inhabitants are unaware, this is actually the result of actions by entities named Widdershin and Aurora, originating from other worlds. As a last resort, the life-bestowing World Tree (Tree of World) uses its last power to create a defender – the player character. The hero, awakened by a creature called Mormo that destroyed his world with the same threat, learns about the danger to this world’s tree. Upon hearing a cry, the player rushes to discover a girl under attack by a soldier. After rescuing the girl, she introduces herself as Kanonno, a member of an organization called Ad Libitum. This guild seeks to help the world’s people, fight against injustice and oppression. With no better leads, the player and Mormo join Ad Libitum, hoping to learn more about the Predator’s whereabouts.

Unlike the mainline Tales games, players create their customizable player character, both in terms of statistics and physical appearance. Players must accept tasks at the local guild from a selected set of five different choices at a time. Tasks include defeating specific types of monsters, mining, harvesting raw materials, or crafting specific items. Upon completing tasks, players are rewarded with money and “Fame Points.” Money is used to upgrade weapons and equipment, making players stronger, while “Fame” is used to progress in the game’s story. Additionally, as the player’s “Fame” increases, the number of recruitable characters increases, some of which are crossover characters originating from previous Tales games, including Tales of Phantasia, Tales of Destiny, Tales of Eternia, Tales of Symphonia, Tales of Legendia, Tales of the Abyss, and Tales of Rebirth.
In addition to just creating the new main character, the player can continuously customize both the statistics and physical appearance using the equipment gathered throughout the game. Furthermore, the game’s crafting system allows the player to customize their equipment even more by combining several items into a new one. Once the game has been completed at least once, two additional difficulty levels are unlocked, “Hard” and “Very Hard,” above the original default “Normal” level. Players can then replay the game with all their levels, currency, and in-game items (excluding mission items) intact, and switch between difficulty levels at any time during the new playthrough, as long as they are outside the fortified towers that are explorable.
