For a considerable period, it seemed impossible: making the classic Resident Evil 4 even better than it already was. However, Capcom has taken a bold step by remaking what is believed to be the most exceptional Resident Evil game. The question is, have they succeeded in improving the game while maintaining its fundamental features? You can find out from our review.

Attempting to recreate a game that holds immense popularity and value for both a game series and an entire genre, while also maintaining the satisfaction of a significant fan base, and incorporating updated graphics and gameplay seems like an unmanageable feat. However, Capcom has taken the challenge to recreate this legendary part, following their remakes of Resident Evil 2 and 3. And we’re happy to report that they’ve accomplished this task exceptionally well!

Resident Evil 4 Review 2023

In 2005, Resident Evil 4 caused a real revolution by introducing significant deviations from previous installments in the series while also implementing several new features. One of these was the first-person perspective of the hero shown over the player’s shoulder, which became hugely popular and spawned a whole new genre of third-person adventure games like God of War, Star Wars Jedi, The Legend of Zelda, and Red Dead Redemption.

Besides this alteration, there were other modifications in the game. The conventional zombies were replaced by humans influenced by parasites, who were notably quicker and displayed diverse characteristics. Consequently, the style of gameplay altered from a horror-centric to a more action-oriented approach.

The Resident Evil remake enhanced aiming accuracy, as shooting certain body parts of the enemy had specific effects. A leg shot would significantly reduce the opponent’s speed, whereas an arm hit could disarm them. Additionally, the game allowed players to shoot airborne objects.

A story that continues to fascinate

The story told in Resident Evil 4 is undeniably one of its greatest strengths, as this isn’t just another run-of-the-mill zombie tale; rather it’s an intense rescue mission that climaxes with a battle of epic proportions against a cult whose aim is global domination through grisly experimentation. With an ample amount of scope to explore each character’s background while telling a larger tale also The narrative comprises grand battles featuring whit massive monstrosities and formidable foes

Leon’s relationship with Ashley provides a central thread throughout Resident Evil 4’s sixteen chapters while additional characters such as Ada Wong or Jack Krauser along with newcomer Luis Sera lend complexity to the overarching narrative. so the confrontations with numerous enemies may become much more unforgettable.

It’s a Remake, but true to the original

If you are concerned that Capcom has completely altered the game with the remake, rest assured that this is not the case. The game maintains its original feel with only a few improvements or conveniences added. For instance, Leon still has an attaché case for storage of weapons, ammunition, and health packs, but the bag can now be expanded and loot drops can be influenced by selecting a different case. Additionally, you no longer have to measure items in your suitcase as all the goods can be sorted with the press of the L3 button.

Leon frequently encounters the familiar green, yellow, and red plants, as well as numerous crates marked by a sizable yellow cross. Although there have been some modifications, the overall arrangement of the levels is reminiscent of the initial version.

Usually, the stages are relatively easy to navigate, but occasionally, you have the opportunity for more independence, making the game feel almost like an open-world experience. These areas with greater freedom are not very expansive, and the map always provides guidance on where to go. Ultimately, Resident Evil 4 is primarily a narrative-based journey.

The gameplay has been renovated. Luckily, the tank controls have been eliminated, and now Leon has the ability to move and shoot simultaneously.

Ashley, the non-playable character who accompanies the player for most of the game, is less fragile. Though it is necessary to assign her tasks to minimize damage during fights, if she happens to be hit, it does not result in an immediate game loss.

Afterward, Ashley will become unable to move and will take a seat on the floor. However, there is still an opportunity for you to assist her in getting up before the game-over message emerges.

Sufficient attention was given to the battles and became quite possible to preserve ammunition. also, It’s easy for Leon to handle the knife that you have, as your knife is not only a weapon but also a tool that allows for both defense and offense; one can deflect attacks while simultaneously assassinating foes. Diverse weaponry gives you the opportunity to try new tactics while arrows shot at enemies can be gathered after the fight has ended or modified with an additional bomb component.

The arrow is destined to break as a result of a natural increase in explosive damage, but you’re in luck as raw materials required to make fresh ammo are readily available, or should one be unable to obtain it themselves then purchasing from a regular vendor is an available option.

To cater to those who prefer classic gaming experiences Capcom now offers an option for playing with the game’s original controls, while we don’t recommend doing so but nevertheless, there is an option available if you’re interested.

Is there nothing to criticize then? Actually, there is one thing. Although the graphics have improved significantly in comparison to the original version (which is understandable for a remake of a 2005 game), it is not entirely up-to-date with current-generation standards. Although the game looks impressive, it appears to be limited to the same level as the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

The remakes of Resident Evil 2 and 3 highlighted the notion that the graphics could have been a bit sharper. While the game isn’t unattractive but the frequently dark, eerie settings don’t necessarily require grandeur, there were spots where some extra embellishments would have been beneficial.
