Me & My Katamari is a third-person perspective video game developed and published by Namco in 2005 for the PlayStation Portable. It is the third game in the Katamari Damacy series, the first on a portable system, and the first game produced without the involvement of the series creator, Keita Takahashi.

Taking a break from celestial construction, the King of All Cosmos takes the royal family on vacation to a tropical paradise. They are tasked with creating new Katamari islands for stranded animals. In this epic mission, the King summons his son, the Prince, and all his cousins for assistance. New features in Me and My Katamari include wireless play for up to four players on the PSP system, a cast of playable characters including the Prince and his cousins – a mix of familiar faces and new additions, a range of customization options for player characters, including new masks and headgear that can be worn on the head, face, and body, and a new island interface highlighting player options and various stages representing animals in need of new homes.

Everyone loves Katamari games, so our expectations were high for the PSP series debut. You are also familiar with the basic principle of the game: play as a small green fellow known as the Prince, whose task is to roll a giant sticky ball around various environments, collecting all sorts of things. Initially, this means small items (drawing pins, flowers, biscuits, etc.), but as the Katamari size increases, the size of collectible items increases (whales, skyscrapers, suns, and so on). In Me & My Katamari, the basic principle remains the same. However, this time, you are tasked with creating a series of islands to carry animals whose tropical homes have been destroyed by a giant tidal wave. The best way to do this, obviously, is to create a large load of fatty Katamaris in the sea.

The Sunbathing Continent is the main level in the game. For variety, the time of day and season constantly change during different tasks. There are five stages in the game, rising to a world level where the Katamari length can exceed 4000 meters. In multiplayer mode, each player has their own island, and a maximum of three friends can visit the island through a dedicated network. Visitors can challenge the player to a competition of throwing valuable items, like the Saving Red Panda stage in We Love Katamari.

In this task, you are guided by the animals themselves, who are very difficult to please (the canary wants a “bright” island, the parrot wants a “tall” island, etc. – meaning you have to fold specific items), and the King of All Cosmos. Yes, he’s back, wandering around in the third-person view, and frankly, he crosses the line between entertaining and foolish more than once in our opinion. “Let’s calculate: color plus size minus love on the dream, plus the soul equals…” Equals whether we can move on to the next level or not, right? So why not just tell us and stop bothering with all this nonsense, you old bearded windbag.

Anyway, yes, the basic principle is the same. Unfortunately, there are way too many levels. It won’t take long before you notice the appearance of the same environments over and over again, albeit in different climatic conditions or foldable elements, or at a different time of day. But that’s not really good, is it?

It doesn’t help that the environments are generally too small, or that you are often interrupted in the middle of the average level while loading the next area. The King pops up on these occasions to inform you of his hatred for loading times as well, but that just makes you want to join some kind of campaign for the elected head of state.
